How is it possible for the PatioLock model to lock without screwing?

Our PatioLock model has its own patented hook and catch locks. The kit fits to the pet door with simple allen keys provided and it doesn't matter if your door opens to the left or right. The kit includes:

Hook Lock: Locks the pet door to your existing catcher/stirker on the wall. Half the locking done. Easy.

Catch Lock: Your door handle locks into our catch/striker. Done. Fully Locked with No Screwing/cutting/drilling/skills/tools or transferring of your locks required!

Please note this is the ONLY pet door insert that can do this.

The patented self-locking capacity saves you hassles, time, and installation costs as no handy skills are needed. It is a game changer.

Question 1: Now you have discovered the PatioLock model can lock your glass door without screwing and handy skills, why would you buy a different brand pet door insert that is going to require screwing and brackets etc to lock the glass door? It just doesn't make sense.

Question 2: Why spend time or have to pay for someone to mess around transferring locks and leaving holes everywhere like you have to do with ALL the other pet door for sliding doors on the market when you no longer have to if you buy a PatioLock model for your home and pet?

The PatioLock model offers you the most value and convenience and security without all the screwing and hassles...

Are you aware of the 5 major problems with ALL the other brand patio pet doors that our PatioLock model solved?

In order to help you make an informed decision we thought it would be helpful to outline the 5 major problems with ALL other brand pet doors that we solved with our patented PatioLock model. This includes brands that advertise 'locks' or 'lock brackets' or 'security packs'.

Consumer Problem 1: Hard Ware and Pet Shop brand Issues:

They are not only made cheaply (materials/design) to allow retailers 100-160% mark up but they have many other disadvantages including:

  1. You can't lock the glass door.
  2. You can't use your screen door.
  3. They do not seal well.
  4. They are not very secure.
  5. There is no screen door adapter option to enhance security & sealing.
  6. They tend to come in silver only.
  7. A cheap and flimsy two-piece frame design is used to save retail packaging space (shorter boxes) on shelves for the retailers benefit at the expense of your security (we use single-piece frames which are stronger and look better).
  8. Limited/Problematic flap sizes: a short flap with a TALL rise (bottom rail) is often used which is PROBLEMATIC for most pets, especially when old/imobile.
  9. Limited 12 month warranty.

Consumer Problem 2: Other brands that advertise 'lock brackets' and 'security packs' etc ALL require you to SCREW the pet door in to the wall frame. Not an option for renters or good for home owners because it leaves HOLES in the sliding door frame AND the pet door.

Consumer Problem 3: MORE SCREWING is needed to transfer the glass door lock from the wall to various brackets. This means more holes & unsightly gaps in paintwork on the wall where the lock was.

Consumer Problem 4: Handy skills & tools & time are needed to instal. Handyman costs are expensive ($250-$500).

Consumer Problem 5: Inconvenient & difficult to remove. Because ALL other brands require SCREWING it all needs to be unscrewed and dismantled to remove the pet door. Locks need to be transferred back to their original position. This is a problem if you are going away for a short holiday or entertaining or moving houses and need the pet door removed/replaced.

Overall, if you research and look into the details before you buy, you will learn ALL other brands have these problems that you can simply avoid by buying our patented PatioLock model solution.

Why does our PatioLock model offer you the Ultimate in Security and Convenience compared to all other patio pet doors?

Our patented PatioLock model is truly unique and offers you many unrivalled benefits including:

  • You no longer need to drill holes in your sliding door system.
  • You no longer need to drill holes in to the pet door and wall frame with brackets of sorts.
  • You no longer need to transfer your existing lock from the wall frame on to brackets/adapter which also leaves unsightly gaps in paint work on the wall.
  • Not having to screw is great for renters and home owners because you are not damaging the property in any way.
  • You no longer need to have tools and handy skills to try and lock the glass door.
  • You no longer need to potentially pay $200-500 for a handyman to install brackets and transfer locks and cut adapters to length to get a pet door to lock your glass door. This alone is a great savings.
  • If you move house, you do not need to buy another screen door adaper as we have the only adjustable one that does not require cutting and can be re-used on different height sliding doors.
  • You get the convenience of using your existing sliding door handle to open/close/lock the glass door to the pet door. No bending over to get a rod in and out of the floor track.
  • You can easily and quickly unlock and remove the pet door in seconds and instantly lock your glass door:great for when you are entertaining, moving house or going away for a holiday as you can immediately lock the glass door.
  • You can take the system to your pet sitter for temporary use with security whilst you go away if they have a common sliding door system.
  • You can keep using the system when you move house because the locks are fully adjustable and universal. It doesn't matter if your door opens to the left or right or if you hook/s rotate upwards or downwards- we got it covered.
  • The PatioLock system is made in Australia so you are getting premium quality and also supporting local industry.

Watch below for a more detailed overview of the PatioLock model and Adjustable Screen Door Adapter:

Do I need the Adjustable Screen Door Adapter even if i don't have/use or care about my screen door?

As noted, the adapter primarily seals and secures the GLASS door, so it is strongly recommended you buy the adapter regardless of whether you have/use the screen door. Other benefits include:

  • Minimises pry risk of the glass door.
  • Aids bug proofing.
  • Aids weather proofing.
  • Hides gaps between the glass door and pet door.
  • Conceals the locks so you don't capture your arm/clothes when entering the house (the locks overhang the pet door frame without the adaper on).
  • Aesthetics are greatly improved as gaps are hidden.
  • Allows for screen door use to let air into the house without letting all the insects in.
  • Adjusts in height so can be re-used at multiple properties
  • Does not require cutting or handy skills to fit (a rubber mallet is best to fit it- $3 from hard wares)
  • Security screen can be locked (striker can be transferred from wall frame into adapter with a few screws- a drill-driver needed for this step)

Basically, the intergrity of the security and lock system is designed to go with the screen door adapter, so we advise you to buy it if you want it all to work and function as designed/intended, regardless of whether you have a screen door or not.

Most customers now buy the PatioLock model and for good reasons:

It's a simple and popular choice because there are numerous benefits you will gain over all other pet doors for sliding doors on the market. These differences are not small either, it is a major and unique selling point to lock with the ultimate in security and convenience with:

  • NO screwing!
  • NO cutting!
  • NO Drilling!
  • NO Handy skills!
  • Fully adjustable so multiple use for if/when you move home!
  • Fast installation.
  • No handyman costs!
  • Fast removal and glass door immediately locks.
  • Great for both renters and home owners.
  • No damage to frame or paintwork removing/transferring lock mechanisms.
  • No need for extra hard ware, brackets, rods and other contraptions/gimmicks.

Treat yourself with the Ultimate in Security and Convenience.

I want to buy myself a PatioLock model- what do I have to check before ordering?

Run through the order checklist below and then select your options at the top of this page.

Order Checklist Steps:

Step 1: Do you have a common ONE or TWO rotating hook lock?

Open your sliding door and flick the lever on your door handle. Notice if ONE or TWO hooks ROTATE out from the side of the door handle.

Reference your lock against those in the pictures below. Green is good!

Tip: you may have to push and hold a little pin in with your finger for two hook locks to release their hooks.

  common-locks-that-will-work-v2.jpg

Step 1.1: What if my lock does NOT match the above one/two rotating hooks?

Some rare sliding door handles do not have rotating hooks, but rather the whole handle slides up and down. This type of lock even though it has a single hook, can work with the TWO hook lockset PatioLock model with some modification, so you would order the TWO hook lock for this style lock.

However, if you doors have INTERNAL style locks like those in the pics below with the red X through them, then the PatioLock model will NOT work. Take a close look and NOTICE the lock mechanisms are INSIDE the aluminium frame, they are NOT located in the handle frame like the pics with the green tics above.

If your door has internal locks, then refer to the FAQ page item on internal locks and check if the base model with a screen door adapter will work.

If you are insure, you can always email a picture through the contact us page or email and we can advise options for you.

pics-of-locks-that-dont-work.jpg

Step 2: Check the wall frame is 10cm or LESS, from left to right.

Measure across the frame externally, from inside the house to the outisde edge of the screen door track as per the picture below. Do NOT include the catch plate/lock mechanism mounted on the wall.

This is ideally 10cm or less for the adapter to work well.

check-wall-frame-is-10cm-or-less.jpg

Step 3. Check the 199-211cm height range of your sliding door frame as per vid or picture below.

If your doors are taller than 2.1m, then extension kits are available to extend the door. One kit gets you to 2.4m. Two kits to 2.7m.

It is important to check a. & b. below:

a. Inside bottom of glass door floor track to the LOWEST point of the top track needs to be 199cm or more (re red arrow below).

b. The inside bottom to inside top needs to be 211cm or less re blue arrow.

measuring-guidelines-for-website.jpg

Step 4: Selecting the correct flap size for your pet:

1. Measure the width of your pet in centimetres across the shoulders or you can open the sliding door 22cm / 27cm / 39cm to mimic the widths of the M / L / XL flaps, respectively, to see which width they fit through best.

2. Check the shoulder height of your pet. Tip: measure your pet against your leg, then measure up to this mark from the ground.

Refer to the table below to pick the right size.

Ideally, having clearance above their shoulders is good but if your dog is young/agile then most breed can duck a bit without any issues until they are very old/arthritic.

The bottom rail on ALL sizes is only 5cm high to help tall/aged pets.

Note the flap HEIGHT is from the GROUND to the top of the flap- this is the important measurement so this is what we reference.

Flap Size

Flap width (cm)

Flap Height (cm)

M

22 41

L

27 61
XL 39

71

Note Labs & GRs are fine with the Large flap.

The massive XL is for huge breeds like Mastiffs, Rotis, Danes, Bull Arabs, etc.

Do not use pet weight as a guide for flap size.

All pets are fine with larger flaps. Cats are fine with any size. The only problem is trying to get a big dog through a tiny flap!

*If you are looking at the XL, please measure you have enough space for human traffic after losing approximately 50cm of your opening space- it is a big pet door!

NOTE: **XL is only available in Black or White and are on BACKORDER until mid-Nov 2024. Order online if you want to reserve one on back order.

range-of-flap-sizes.jpg

Step 5: Colour choice

  • Primrose (cream)
  • Black
  • White
  • Silver-grey

**XL in Black or White are on BACKORDER until mid-Nov 2024. Order online if you want to reserve one on back order.

Step 6: Adding the Adjustable Screen Door adapter to the cart:

The name of the Screen Door Adapter is rather misleading as its primary function is to seal and secure the glass door, just like the channel in the wall frame that the glass door closes in to. We strongly recommend getting the adapter even if you don't have/use your screen.

If you do have a screen door, then you will get the added benefit of being able to use the screen door to let air in/out of the house to aid heating/cooling without letting all the insects in.

It is much cheaper ($91 vs over $200) to order the adapter when you order your PatioLock model, so add the adapter to the cart with the drop down box at the top of this page (after pet door colour and flap size) if you want to maximise security and sealing and screen use.

Step 7: Shipping costs:

Free or flat-rate shipping is no longer possible Australia-wide because the pet doors are over 1.8m long, which classes them as over-size freight that generates manual handling surcharges in addition to domestic delivery surcharges, fuel levies and the actual courier fee.

Many of the large couriers have stopped doing over-size freight so we use different couriers depending on your exact location within Australia.

We are able to have a few zones per se in the check out step to try and streamline some of the courier pricing but if you live in rural towns then please select the $1 freight option and we will invoice you the courier price once we get the quote back. If you prefer you can email what you want and the address and we can quote before putting the order through. We do not put any mark up on freight so the price will be the same whether you order before or after.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to use an accurate freight calculator at checkout as we can't just use one company that could provide prices. The zone model is the best system we can come up with thus far to try and span some of the more populated regions.

Can I lock the flap?

Yes, you can see the steel powder coated lock panel and lock system in the picture below.

steel-lock-plate-picture-3-point-lock.jpg

Did you know the PatioLock model offers more Security than the old dated method of transferring locks?

Without boring you with engineering details, the PatioLock model uses the existing locks and the way your locks are mounted on the frame in their original position is typically stronger compared to the direction of the screws and pull-out force required when using brackets when locks are transferred.

What if I move house, can I re-use the PatioLock model?

Yes, you can because the PatioLock model is fully adjustable and universal which means you can keep reusing it if/when you move homes and because no screwing is involved it is perfect for renters and home owners because you won't be leaving screw holes everywhere!

Again, please note, the Screen Door Adapter name is somewhat misleading, its main function is to seal and secure the GLASS door, so we strongly recommend getting the adapter even if you do not use/have a screen door.

Our patented adapter is also the only adjustable adapter on the market, which means you can keep re-using this as well if/when you move homes.

What happens if my current house has a one hook lock and I move to a house that requires a two hook lock, or vice versa?

The lock kits can be ordered seperately to accomodate moving homes. However, 80% of houses have a single hook lock, so if you have a single, you have a high probability of being able to keep using that at multiple properties.

Convenient, looks great
4 Stars

So easy to install. Works well and looks great. Excellent service and fast. This is our second one, for another door, i gave this 4 stars because compared to the first door, this one taps and clicks. The magnets are loose in the bottom, so doesn't grab/close the flap as quickly as the first door. Otherwise awesome and highly recommended.

Cannot fault this business at all. I received fantastic customer service support during the order process. The door itself is good quality and was less complicated to put together than anything from IKEA. Would not hesitate to purchase from them again

Modern Pet Door
5 Stars

I found the door to be of a high quality, everything needed was included. The instructions are comprehensive. The only negative for my dog is she was used to a very soft flexible PVC door from a pup and didn't like the Polycarbonate door, so I removed this and installed soft PVC strips for her. Otherwise very happy with the product, the fast delivery and value for money.

Very good product and excellent quality. However stated that no tools required. I needed tools. Also it was missing locking mechanism screews and bolts i just recycled my existing lock for the both the glass sliding door and the security door. Otherwise it is perfect and the price is lower than competitors. Very happy with it.

Exceptional Quality and Ease of installation

Quality product backed by good installation instructions. The kit offered sufficient accessories to support you customised installation. i didn't need to use all the accessories supplied.

PatioLock Pet Door

This is without doubt the best product on the market. Dare I say that my only criticism is that the website said that with the height extender and insect screen door I would require some DIY skills. I have very limited DIY skills but was able to install the entire door in no time at all. The delivery was incredibly quick and teh instructions were so clear and precise that the installation was done by me a alone within an hour. It is simply brilliant, is not unsightly at all and can be remoived and reinstalled with no damage toi the original patiodoors at all.
